1 kg of beef or pork chuck
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups water
3 sprigs of thyme
1 bay leaf
2 tablespoons salt
black pepper to taste
1 chopped onion
2 medium-sized carrots, peeled and cut into sticks
1 1/2 cups turnips, peeled and cut into sticks
4 potatoes, peeled and cut into cubes
1 kg of beef or pork chuck

Remove any excess fat from the beef or pork
Pat dry the beef or pork with paper towels
Coat in flour
Brown on all sides in butter or margarine
Add 1 1/2 cups of water, thyme, bay leaf, salt, and black pepper
Cover and cook slowly for 1 hour, adding more water as needed
Add remaining ingredients and cook again for 30 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender
If desired, cut the beef into cubes
This will make the cooking process shorter and easier to serve
Serve in 6 portions.
