8 red guavas (about 1.6 pounds)

Peel the guavas, cut them in half, and remove the seeds (you can use the seeds in a jelly recipe)
Cut the pulp into pieces and puree it in a blender until you get 2 1/2 cups
Put the pulp and granulated sugar in a large saucepan
Bring to a simmer over low heat, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon (in front of and behind), until the mixture thickens well at the bottom of the pan
Let it cook for about 10 minutes.
