Rub the bottom of a terra cotta bowl with a clove of garlic
Pour in the white wine and place it in a warm water bath
When the wine starts to heat up, add the cut cheese
As the cheese starts to melt, stir constantly with a wooden spoon until smooth
Add 2 tablespoons of rum and season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg
Place the bowl in the center of the table on top of an alcohol-powered burner, as the fondue should be eaten hot
Each guest will take a piece of toasted bread, place it on the end of their fork, and scoop up some of the fondue from the same bowl
The fondue can also be served in small individual terra cotta bowls, but the collective bowl is generally more appreciated as it remains warm on top of the burner
There are also beautiful copper decorative bowls available
