Lightly fry the chicken in butter or margarine in a skillet
Remove and sauté the onion in the remaining fat until golden brown
Place the chicken back in the skillet and add the next three ingredients
Season with salt and pepper
Cover and simmer over low heat for an hour
In the last 30 minutes of cooking, add the mushrooms
Just before serving, stir in the sour cream to combine everything well
Serve hot, but do not let it boil
