12 Bahia or Barreto oranges
3 and a half liters of water
3 and a half kilograms of granulated sugar
Wash the oranges well and cut them in half, without peeling them
Remove their seeds and central core, and bundle them inside a cheesecloth bag
Cut the oranges (peel and pulp) into thin strips, taking care to collect the juice that drips during this process
Let the orange pieces soak in water for 24 hours
Then bring them to a boil with the soaking liquid, the orange juice, the cheesecloth bag with the cores, and the granulated sugar
Simmer for about two hours until it reaches a gel-like consistency
This gelatin will have a slightly bitter taste
If you don't like it, replace the orange water before bringing them to a boil.
