8 oranges with plenty of juice and fine skin

In a saucepan, mix the sugar with the wine, lemon juice, and 2/3 cup of sugar
Let it simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally
While this is happening, peel the oranges, being careful to remove only the outer fine skin
Cut the rind into thin strips
Remove all the white parts from the oranges
Add the rind strips to the saucepan and let it cook slowly until it reduces to half
Remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool down
Secure the oranges on a plate (don't waste the juice) and cut them into slices
Remove the seeds and reassemble the orange slices, securing them with a toothpick
Arrange these oranges in a deep glass bowl
Add the orange juice that formed when cutting the slices to the saucepan
Pour the sauce slowly over the oranges
Refrigerate until serving time
Serves 8 portions.
