1 tablespoon of salt
1/4 cup of sugar

Plum Filling
1 cup of cooked and chopped black plums, or dried damascos
3 tablespoons of grated carrot
2 tablespoons of orange peel
1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
Mix 1 cup of wheat flour, yeast, salt, and sugar in a bowl
Heat the milk and butter or margarine in a pan until the butter is melted
Add the remaining 2 to 2 1/4 cups of wheat flour and egg to the mixture, and beat with an electric mixer for 2 minutes at high speed
Knead the dough by hand until it forms a firm mass
Cover with a cloth and let it rise to double its volume, for 1 hour and 15 minutes
Place on a floured surface and knead for a few minutes until it doesn't stick anymore
Let it rise in a protected area
While the dough is rising, prepare your preferred filling: open the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle of about 37.5 x 30 cm
Cut into 20 small squares of 7.5 cm each
Place approximately 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each square
Lift the edges of each square and press to close
Place in a greased baking dish, leaving a gap of about 5 cm between the Trousxinhas
Let it rise again to double its volume, for about 30 minutes
Bake in a hot oven (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown
If desired, brush with melted butter and sprinkle with sugar.
