2 cups of clean strawberries
To cook the meringues

1/4 cup of sugar
3 cups of milk

3 eggs
2 yolks

To make the meringues, beat the egg whites until snowy and gradually add 1/4 cup of sugar, beating until stiff peaks form
In a pot, place 3 cups of milk and bring to a gentle simmer
Allow the meringues to fall into the milk in spoonfuls to obtain 6 meringues
Cook slowly until firm, which takes about 5 minutes
Remove with a slotted spoon and let drain on paper towels
To make the cream, beat the eggs with the yolks
Add 1/2 cup of sugar
Add 3 cups of milk that has been cooled slightly (use the milk from cooking the meringues and add more if needed)
Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened
Remove from heat
Let cool slightly and add vanilla extract
Place the strawberries in a bowl, reserving some for garnish
Pour the cream over the top
Cover with cooked meringues
Refrigerate
At serving time, garnish with reserved strawberries
Serves 6.
