In a large pot over high heat, bring the water to a boil
Add the bread and salt, mixing well
Reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 25 minutes without stirring or allowing all liquid to evaporate
Remove from heat and spread onto a medium-sized baking dish
Let cool, occasionally stirring with a fork to loosen the bread

Just before serving, place the cooled bread in a pot, add butter in small pieces, and heat over medium heat, stirring frequently until well heated
Add the tamarinds, mixing well.
