One packet of active dry yeast
1/4 cup of warm water
125g unsalted butter or margarine
1/2 cup of sugar
1 cup of hot milk
2 lightly beaten eggs
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of salt
4 to 5 cups of all-purpose flour, sifted

Dissolve the yeast in warm water
Mix the butter or margarine with the sugar, hot milk in a large bowl
Let it rest
Add the eggs (reserve one tablespoon for brushing the cake before baking), vanilla essence, yeast, and salt
Mix well
Gradually add the flour, beating until you get a firm batter
Cover and let it rise for 1 hour
Beat it a bit and let it rise for another 45 minutes
Place in two well-greased English cake pans and let it rise for about 45 minutes
Brush with the reserved egg
Bake in a moderate oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
