1 cup dried plums, chopped

2/3 cup unsalted butter, softened or common butter
1 tablespoon grated orange peel
1 cup chopped hazelnuts or walnuts
1 egg
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1 cup dried plums, chopped

Preheat the oven to moderate temperature (170°F)
Pam a 9x5-inch loaf pan
Soak the plums in boiling water while preparing the cake
Sift together the flour, yeast, and cinnamon into a large bowl
Add the orange peel and hazelnuts or walnuts
In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, oil, and soaked plums
Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined
Pour into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top
Bake for 1 hour and 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes
Release the cake from the sides with a knife and turn onto a wire rack
Let cool completely
Wrap the cake in parchment paper and refrigerate overnight to allow flavors to meld
Cut into thin slices and serve with butter and coffee for dessert
