4 tablespoons of olive oil or vegetable oil
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
10 clean sardines
1 tablespoon of mustard
1 tablespoon of English-style Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon of lemon juice
salt and black pepper to taste
1/4 cup of butter or margarine at room temperature

Heat the olive oil or vegetable oil in a pan and sauté the onion and garlic until golden brown
Add the sardines and cook over low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
Remove from heat, add mustard, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper to taste
Blend the mixture at intervals in a blender until smooth
Add butter or margarine and mix well
Serve with crackers or savory biscuits.
