1/2 cup dry red wine

Peel the pears
Remove seeds
Cut into 4 pieces
Brush with lemon juice
Combine water, wine, cloves, cinnamon, and sugar in a small saucepan
Add pears
Bring to a boil
Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes or until pears are tender but not mushy
Let cool in liquid
Serve in individual dishes or a glass dish with the liquid poured over the top
Refrigerate until serving time
