Wash the lemons thoroughly and carefully remove their peels
Place the lemon peels, cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar in a bowl with 2.5 cups of water
Let it sit until the sugar dissolves
Heat it over low heat and let it simmer
Strain the liquid into a punch bowl previously warmed with hot water
Add the lemon juice, brandy or rum, and champagne
Serve immediately.
