Gradually add the milk, whisking well
Add the eggs, whisking until smooth
Bring to a simmer over medium heat, whisking constantly
Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract
Pour into a container and cover directly with plastic wrap
Allow to cool
For the chocolate pudding: combine the sugar and cornstarch
Add the chocolate chips, milk, eggs, and butter
Proceed as for the vanilla pudding
Once cooled, layer the two puddings in a container or create a marbled effect by combining them
Chill for 12-15 hours.
