One-third cup of sugar - 60 g
Two tablespoons of cornstarch - 14 g
Two cups of milk - 480 ml
Two lightly beaten egg yolks

Two teaspoons of vanilla

In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and cornstarch
Mix in the milk and egg yolks, adding slowly while stirring well
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens and boils
Boil for one minute, then remove from heat
Add the butter or margarine
Pour into serving dishes, let cool slightly, and refrigerate
Variations: Use 2/3 cup of finely ground sugar (120 g) in place of common sugar and only one teaspoon of vanilla
With chocolate, use 1/2 cup of sugar and add one-third cup of chopped chocolate to the mixture of sugar and cornstarch
Do not use butter
If desired, sprinkle with chocolate chips at serving time
