Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch
Avoid scorching by heating the milk and water in a pan until almost boiling
When ready to add the mixture, whisk it into the eggs to prevent curdling
Next, add this mixture to the milk with water, whisking continuously until thickened
Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until desired consistency is reached
Remove from heat, whisk in butter, mix well, and reserve.
