Cut the garlic clove in half and rub it all over the inside of a baking dish
Grease with half the butter
Peel the potatoes, dry them well, and cut into very thin slices
Layer them in the dish, overlapping the potato slices and sprinkling each layer with salt and pepper
Mix the eggs and milk
Pour it over the potatoes
Cover with the remaining butter broken into small pieces
Bake in a moderate oven (170°C) preheated for about 50 minutes, or until the potato is tender
