1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup confectioner's sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

Preheat the oven to hot temperature (425°F)
Mix the butter or margarine with the confectioner's sugar, egg, and vanilla extract
Sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and add to the butter mixture alternately with buttermilk (to acidulate buttermilk, add 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice or vinegar)
Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1/8 inch on a lightly floured surface
Cut into drop shapes or use a cookie cutter
Place in a baking dish lined with parchment paper and dust with confectioner's sugar
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until slightly golden
If desired, glaze with ice cream and cover with another biscuit
