Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Melt the cocoa powder with milk and beat again
Add the flour and baking powder, beating until smooth and even
Pulse in the baking soda and vanilla extract, mixing well
Pour into a prepared pan (see note) and bake in a medium oven
'Filling: Melt the chocolate in a water bath.'
Combine with heavy cream and set aside
Place the damsons in a bowl and add water
Let soak for two hours
Transfer to a saucepan, add sugar, and simmer until syrupy
Cool the damsons, then mix with chocolate and hazelnuts
Beat well.
