1 Preheat the oven to 350°F
In a heatproof bowl, melt the chocolate in a double boiler
In an electric mixer, beat the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy
Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, and then gradually add the flour
2 Fold in the melted chocolate and mix well
Beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form and fold into the mixture
Pour the batter into a 9-inch round cake pan that has been greased and floured with paper
Bake for 30 minutes
Filling and Topping
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler, then stir in the heavy cream and confectioners' sugar until smooth
Mix well to form a creamy filling
Cut the cake in half, fill and top.
