1 cup of milk or water
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
8 tablespoons of cocoa powder in Powder

Beat the butter or margarine with the confectioners' sugar
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition
Combine flour and baking powder
Alternate adding this mixture with milk or water, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients
Add vanilla extract
Transfer half of the batter to another bowl and stir in cocoa powder in Powder until well combined
Layers of white batter and chocolate batter alternately in a greased pan
Bake in a moderate oven at 350°F for 45 minutes.
