3 well-beaten eggs
1 cup of blackberry or jaboticaba jam
1 cup of buttermilk (with lemon juice)

Mix together the flour, baking soda, and spices
Mix the coconut and crystallized fruit pieces
Dust with a little wheat flour on top
Beat the butter or margarine
Add the eggs and jam
Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk, beating well
Add the coconut and crystallized fruit pieces
Bake in three 22 cm diameter pans or two larger pans
Frost to taste.
