For the Chocolate Glaze:

To make the cake: Preheat the oven to medium temperature (170°F)
Line three 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper and grease with butter
Whisk together the flour, sugar, melted chocolate, baking powder, and salt
Beat in the eggs, milk, yeast, and vanilla extract
Beat for an additional 2 minutes
Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into each cake comes out clean
Let cool completely
To make the glaze: Melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler over hot water (not boiling)
Add the remaining ingredients and stir well
Beat the mixture with an electric mixer for 5 minutes, until it has a spreading consistency
Place one cake on a plate, cover with some of the glaze, and sprinkle with chopped nuts
Repeat with the second and third cakes, covering each with the glaze and topping with nuts
Let set at room temperature
This cake can be made ahead of time and frozen (to do so, place in the freezer until firm)
Remove from the freezer and wrap in aluminum foil
Refrigerate for 5 hours before serving, removing the foil immediately
Let sit at room temperature., Serves 6-8 people.
