Pour seven cups of cold water over the white bean, smoked ham, and smoked bacon in a clay pot
Cover and cook slowly for about 2 hours
Add the onion, cabbage, turnips, and turnip greens, all chopped
Mix well but do not mash the beans too much
Taste and season with salt and pepper to taste, and let it simmer for another hour or so
Serve in large soup bowls with the meat cut into small pieces
Portions are served four times.
