2 cups of sweetened condensed milk
1 cup of coconut milk and water
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Mix the sweetened condensed milk, coconut milk, and water in a saucepan
Heat and cook until a small portion of the mixture forms a soft ball when dropped into cold water
Pour onto a greased surface and let cool slightly
Add the vanilla extract and whip until the mixture is thick and creamy
Knead until smooth
Divide the dough in half, adding some drops of green food coloring to one half and red food coloring to the other
Dust with grated coconut on a baking sheet
Bake in a low oven for 15 minutes or until firm
Add the grated coconut to each half of the dough, in equal parts
Soak the two halves in warm water until soft
Place one teaspoon of shortening over parchment paper and smooth slightly
Place a piece of candied cherry in the center of each half
Allow to set
