1 cup all-purpose flour, finely ground (can be passed through a liquidizer)
1 cup confectioner's sugar sifted through a fine-mesh sieve
1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts or hazelnuts)
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons golden Karo syrup
3 tablespoons dry sherry or Madeira wine

2 tablespoons golden Karo syrup
3 tablespoons dry sherry or Madeira wine
Mix all the ingredients well, including the flour, confectioner's sugar, pecans, and chocolate; add the Karo syrup and wine
Mix again and shape into balls approximately 2 cm in diameter
Dip each ball into additional confectioner's sugar
These nutmeg cookies are best when stored for one or two days in a sealed container
