In a saucepan, melt the butter or margarine
Add the powdered sugar and stir until dissolved
Dissolve the baking soda in the milk and add to the mixture, stirring well
Stir until smooth and let cool
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk mixture
Pour the mixture into an ungreased 1 1/2-quart baking dish
Spread the creamy pudding over the top of the pumpkin cubes and bake in a moderate oven (170°C) for about 45 minutes
Let it rest for 6 hours.
