Cream together the butter or margarine and sugar until smooth
Add the eggs and mix well
Melt in the chocolate, flour, and nuts (if using) and mix until combined
Pour into a 20cm square baking dish, greased, and bake at moderate heat (170°C) for 30-35 minutes
Prepare the topping: melt together the chocolate, butter or margarine, and milk in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly until smooth
Add the granulated sugar and mix well to achieve a spreading consistency
Remove the brownies from the oven, let them cool, then cover with the chocolate topping and decorate with chopped nuts
Finally, cut into squares.
