Gently toast the slices of bread
Spread butter on the slices
Heat a skillet with oil over medium heat
Add chopped onions in thin layers
Fry until they're transparent
Let it cool slightly
Alternate layers of onion, hard-boiled eggs, herring cut in half lengthwise, and scallions over the bread slices
Sprinkle with black pepper and top with cheese
Put in a preheated oven at 200°F for about 10 minutes
Make 6 sandwiches.
