In a pot, combine the water, carrot, celery, parsley, and onion
Blend in a blender
Return the puree to the pot
Add the split peas and asparagus, including any cooking liquid or can liquid, and the bay leaf
Let cook for 1/2 hour or more
Remove the bay leaf and serve hot
Serves 4.
