Cream the butter or margarine with 1/4 cup of sugar
Add in the flour and mix well
Press into the bottom of a small baking dish
Bake in a moderate oven for about 15 minutes, or until lightly golden
While that's cooking, beat the eggs slightly, add in the vanilla extract, and gradually add in the sugar, beating well
Then, add in the flour and shredded coconut and mix well
Spread over the baked layer and bake for another 20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the mass comes out clean
Let cool and cut into diamonds.
