Beat the butter with sugar until creamy
Add the eggs and continue beating
Add the flour, baking powder, and lemon rind
Mix well
Place in a 23.5 cm springform pan greased with butter
Arrange slices of green apple on top of the batter and bake at moderate heat (180°C) for 30 minutes or until the mixture is dry and firm
Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and turn out
If desired, sprinkle with sugar
Serve warm
