Preheat the oven to medium temperature and grease the baking pan with butter
In a bowl, combine the flour, cinnamon, ginger, yeast, salt, cloves, and baking soda
Mix well
Mix in the milk and vanilla extract
In a stand mixer, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy
Add the egg and mix until combined
Add the honey and mix again
Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with the milk mixture, and mix until smooth
Peel the pears and slice them thinly
Line the bottom of the baking pan with the pear slices
Cover with the batter
Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean
Let cool when warm and serve.
