12 slices of Gruyère cheese or wheel

Remove the crust from the bread slices
Spread butter or margarine on one side and fry in a very hot skillet until golden brown
Peel the pears, slice them thinly, and arrange on top of the toasted bread, along with the fried side
Top each canapé with 1 slice of Gruyère cheese, secured with a toothpick, and serve with warm bread for 6 people.
