1 medium chicken cut into pieces
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup butter or margarine
6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup chopped onion
1 clove garlic minced
3 cups water
3 cups okra cut into pieces
1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
1/2 cup grated celery
1/2 cup green onions chopped

Season the chicken pieces with salt and pepper
Melt the butter and fry the chicken until golden brown
Remove the chicken from the pan and place it in a casserole
Add the flour to the remaining fat in the pan and cook until lightly browned
Add the onion and garlic, cooking until the onion is translucent
Add the chicken back to the pan with the okra and water
Simmer the mixture for about 20 minutes, or until the chicken is almost tender
Add the remaining ingredients and simmer for an additional 15 minutes
Serve hot.
