Sift the flour into a bowl; combine the sugar, egg, yeast, vanilla, and melted butter at room temperature
Mix with a wooden spoon until a firm dough forms
Let it rest in a protected area for the dough to rise slightly
Shape into circles or half-moons approximately 2 cm in diameter; make them quite thin
Fry some at the same time in hot butter or margarine, for about 4 minutes per side, or until golden but not burnt
Dust with confectioner's sugar, serve warm
Yield: about 18 fritters.
