Check the plums and remove any that are defective
Wash and halve the plums, removing the pits

Place the plums and water in a saucepan
Cover with sugar
Heat slowly at first and stir carefully every few minutes until the sugar dissolves
Increase heat and simmer for 10 minutes
Reduce heat and cook until it thickens to a pudding consistency, taking about 40-50 minutes
Pour into sterilized warm jars and seal hermetically.
