2 tablespoons of butter
1 tablespoon of melted bacon fat (corresponds to 3 slices)
2 large onions, thinly sliced
2 fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
1 1/2 tablespoons of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
A pinch of ground cloves
A pinch of ground cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons of vinegar

Melt the butter with the bacon fat
Add the onion and strawberry mixture and cook until golden brown
Add the sugar and stir for 2 minutes
Combine the salt, ground cloves, and ground cinnamon
Reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes, covered, or until caramel-colored
Stir occasionally
Add the vinegar and increase heat to evaporate
Reduce heat again and simmer for another 3 minutes, stirring frequently
Serve warm
