1/3 cup of grated Minas cheese
2 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
Fat for frying
2 medium onions, finely chopped
1/4 cup of olive oil
1/2 pound ground beef, lean
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1 cup of store-bought or homemade tomato sauce
1 teaspoon of cinnamon
Salt and pepper to taste
2 eggs
1 cup of milk
1/3 cup of grated Minas cheese
Peel the potatoes and slice them thinly
Fry the potato slices in plenty of hot fat until they're golden, then drain and set aside
Layer half of the potatoes at the bottom of a 17x27 cm refractory dish
Fry the onion in olive oil until it's soft and set it aside
Use the remaining oil in the pan to cook the ground beef, breaking it up with a fork as it cooks until it loses its red color
Add the cooked onion, garlic, tomato sauce, cinnamon, salt, and pepper to the cooked ground beef and stir well
Spread this mixture over the potatoes
Top with the remaining potatoes
Beat the eggs and mix with milk
Pour this mixture over the meat and potatoes
Sprinkle grated cheese on top
Bake in a preheated moderate oven for 45 minutes
To serve, cut into squares and serve 4 portions
You can use eggplants or zucchinis instead of potatoes, just make sure to fry them in minimal fat.
