1 packet or 25g of active dry yeast
1/4 cup of warm water
1/2 cup of scalded milk
1/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of salt
2 tablespoons of melted butter or margarine
2 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 egg, beaten slightly
1/4 cup of raisins
1/4 cup of citron, crystallized and diced
1/4 cup of chopped crystallized cherries
2 tablespoons of melted butter

Dissolve the yeast in warm water. Reserve
Mix together the milk, sugar, salt, and melted butter or margarine
Let it cool to room temperature
Add 1 cup of flour, mixing well
Add the yeast mixture and egg
Beat well
Add the raisins and crystallized fruits
Add enough flour to obtain a soft dough
Place the dough on a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic
Shape into a loaf and place in a greased bowl
Cover and let rise in a protected area until doubled, approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes
Knead again, then divide into two balls
Let rest for 10 minutes
Shape each ball into an oval shape about 2 cm thick
Dip the middle of each oval in melted butter
Fold and place on a greased baking sheet
Baste with melted butter
Let rise for 45 minutes
Bake in a medium oven for 25 minutes
Let cool
If desired, sprinkle with sugar and nuts
