Peel the pears
Cut into 4 parts
Remove the seeds
Mix half of the sugar (3/4 cup) with 1/2 cup water
Bring to a boil
Add the pears, cloves, and cinnamon stick and simmer for 15 minutes
Separately, bring the milk to a boil with the remaining sugar and vanilla extract
Bring to a boil again
Whisk together the eggs and flour
Remove the milk from heat and slowly whisk in the egg mixture, beating well
Return to heat and cook, stirring, for 5-7 minutes or until the sauce thickens
Pour into a shallow dish
Let cool
Arrange pears in the sauce
Refrigerate
Serve cold
