one teaspoon of baking soda
3/4 cup of raisins

Soak the wafer flour in buttermilk for half an hour
Beat the butter or margarine and brown sugar until well combined, add the Karo syrup and beat well
Sift together the flours with the spices and baking soda and add to the cream
Add the raisins and wafer flour and beat well
Bake in a ring-shaped pan greased and heated oven for 45 minutes
Serve warm or cold with any pudding sauce, serves 8 people.
