Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla extract together
Mix in the flour and chopped nuts
Add to the butter mixture
Knead well
Remove small portions of dough and shape into balls 2.5 cm in diameter
Place on an ungreased baking sheet
Bake in a moderate oven preheated to 150°C for about 45 minutes or until lightly golden
Let cool slightly and dust with confectioner's sugar
