Beat the egg whites with 1/2 cup sugar until frothy and stiff
Bring the water to a boil, add the jell-O, and stir until dissolved
Mix in the beaten egg yolks, 1/2 cup cold water, lemon juice, and grated zest
Mix well and refrigerate until it starts to thicken
Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks
Gradually add the remaining 1/4 cup sugar while beating until a firm meringue forms
Gently beat the jell-O mixture
Add the meringue and mix gently to combine
Pour into several cups or one large bowl
Refrigerate until firm
