Soak the gelatin in 1/4 cup of cold tomato juice
Dissolve it in hot water (in a double boiler) and add to the remaining tomato juice
Season with salt, pepper, and English dressing to taste
Refrigerate until slightly thickened
Add the salad seasoning and refrigerate until firm
Cut the avocados in half lengthwise, remove the pit and peel
Sprinkle with lemon juice to prevent browning
Arrange the avocado halves on lettuce leaves
Break the aspic with a fork and fill the avocado halves with it
Serve with mayonnaise or common salad dressing
